New Black Lips

Photobucket

The Black Lips are about to release their brand new album and here's the first single Starting Over. It sounds a bit raw, as usual, but we know what to expect from those 4 Atlanta boys. 200 Million Thousands is the name of the disc and it will be out on the 24 of February 2009. There's also a home made video contest for the song, all the details are on their website www.black-lips.com

Manabadman

Check out this Andy George remix. The wobbly bass line of course reminds us of a certain Jack Beats remix that came out a few moths ago on Palmsout rec. For those who like the whole wobbly bassline thing I would definitely recommend. In the same bassy/bubbly/wobbles, The Radio 1 monthly resident also finished a Futurhead remix that is currently up on his myspace.

Simple Yet Effective

Photobucket

So here is the new Erol Alkan edit for Sebastian's almost forgotten Momy. The "Simple Yet Effective" sub-name pretty much describe the purpose of the track. Like on his recent ZZT remix, the build/intro is super long making it across the 2:15 mark. Also just before posting this I noticed that he just re-edited the song but it just seems the same, maybe it is...

Cut Off Your Hands

Photobucket

A new Cut Off Your Hands is always welcome. I had lost sight of them for a while but it seems that they will be releasing their first full length pretty soon, early 2009 more precisely. From what I've heard so far, I wouldn't be surprise if the whole CD was as good as their previous works. Also they re-recorded most of their previous hit singles so everything should sound great. Here is the new single.

Toddla T Remixes Esser

Photobucket

Here's a remix I had never noticed until I randomly stumbled upon it last week. I always find Toddla T's work interesting but I would say that this particular remix is more accessible then usual. On the other hand, Esser's song is quite good itself so I think the combination between Toddla's solid rhythmics and Esser's poppy voice is quite a duo. I'll post the original so you can compare both.

Telepathe

Photobucket

Wow I had never actually took the time to listen to the other material from Telepathe. I taught Chrome's On It was great but I just wouldn't commit myself to listen to their other songs. I now understand what all the excitement around this 3 piece from Brooklyn was about. I even saw them at Korova after their show with The Kills I think but I can't remember if they finally did djayed that night. I also was skeptical towards this band cause of I thought everyone was loving them for their look... I was wrong. So to forgive myself I'll post these two amazing song that I just discovered the other day.

The Japanese Motors

Photobucket

Heavily promoted and signed by the prestigious Vice Records, these 4 california guys have been making an awful lot of noise these past few months. I would describe their sound as garage /surf/ party rock. 2 of the band members were seriously involved in the californian surf scene, the singer was a pro and the drummer carved boards so yeah, we do feel the influence. Their first self titled full length has been out for about a month and a half now so it is definitely not to late to get a grip of this 12 track sensation. Here are the first 2 tracks of the release itself.

Little Joy

Photobucket

No this is not Strokes. It is related though. This is actually the drummer's side project. It is practically impossible not to think about them when you listen to this song. The voice, well let's just say it is disturbingly comparable to you know who... Anyhow it doesn't take anything away from the quality of the song, it still sounds great. I would recommend you to check their other songs. The singing alternates between the guy Rodrigo  Amarante of Los Hermanos and the other girl Binki Shapiro, and their are a few acoustic/folky good song to discover on the CD. If your curious  you won't be disappointed.

Parenthetical Girl

Photobucket

I just saw the video for this song and it reminded me how good it was. I never had the chance to see them live in concert but I would assume it must be pretty amazing. Entanglements, their latest CD, is simply amazing. Zac Pennington androgynous voice is absolutely outstanding, and the musical achievement on this record is in my opinion some of their best work so far. Entanglements.

Passion Pit

Photobucket

Here's a terrific remix from the LOL Boys I found last week. Yes it's another Sleepyhead remix, but they really did a good job on this one, giving it a punchy nu disco makeover. This also reminds me that Passion Pit themselves will be making a quick stop in Montreal this winter playing at Divan Orange on the 22th of January. Their latest full length Chunk Of Change is apparently really good but I have to listen to the whole entire thing.

The Strange Boys

Photobucket

Now here's an interesting young band from Austin, Texas that I've been listening to for a while now. The singer's very unique tone is what really caught my attention in the first place and I have to say, it really ads up nicely to their more traditionnal rock n blues style. The Black Lips comparison would be inevitable but somehow it also reminds me of Bob Dylan's earlier work, when he took a "pitchy-er" voice and wrote his rock/blues all time classics, like his 115th Dream song per example. I couldn't find my favorite songs on mp3 but those songs should give you an idea of what they do, give them a try.

New Mumdance

Photobucket

Here's a new mash/blend/refix by one of the best producer out there in my opinion, Mumdance. He decided to put this track together just to give us a  small hint of how is live sets sounds like. Quite effortlessly, after having a few beers in the studio, he apparently decided to create this bonus track sending his favorite badman Jammer in the booth and a certain C Gritz. The result is quite nice, it really brings out the best of both tracks.

Rusko

Photobucket

This remix is not your typical Rusko rework. The bass is definitely lighter than what we've grown accustomed to. The song is really groovy and easy to listen to. If your diggin the sound go check out his other work, it is really worth the interest but of course keep in mind that it as practically nothing to do with this Remix. For those who are not familiar with this artist, Rusko is one of dubstep's biggest name right now. Alongside with equally important dubstep figure Caspa, he runs another project originally called Caspa & Rusko. But for now, here's the untraditional Sing What You Want.

Radioclit's Township

Photobucket

Yet another remarkable remix from those two african culture lovers. It was about time they released the Radioclit and Sinden release because the buzz around this tribe-step summer hit is pretty much gasping on his last breath. I would say the two remixes are essentially the same, both speeding up the track a little, changing the rhythm patterns and subtly incorporating ambient sounds that differs from the original.

I should've posted this track earlier because it is just plain amazing. I thought it was passing under the radar since no one had been really talking about it since his original release who happened to be about a month and half ago. Finally, I've seen it posted on a couple of blogs these last days, which helped me to actually get a better version of the song in terms of sound quality (comparing to the one on Itunes who is like always a considerably more compressed file). Anyhow here is 8 min of pure nu disco funk that will warm up any party I guarantee it.
